Fresh bread and fishing boats

Ah livorno, a quiet fishing town.
We were the only tourists in this town and the best word I could use to describe it is cozy. We arrived in Livorno after a long flight and long train ride and then a bus ride to the air bnb. Because of this I had unfortunately reached toddler hood. Keith tried to remedy the situation by getting food in my ASAP but we quickly found that saturday nights in livorno is the night to eat out with the entire extended family. After a few failed attempted and possibly a tear shed we resulted to a pizza place i saw while researching. A short walk in the opposite direction of the main town led us to a tiny establishment. Each restaurant in livorno seated no more than 10-15 people. After some discussion they gave us a table if we promised to eat within 2 hours. ( no problem ! day one... mistake)

This was the moment I knew that Italians were my people. They do this incredible thing with food. you order something, they make it, then it comes out of the oven, pot etc and they pick it up and hand it to you. Meaning each time you get food it is bubbling or steaming temperature. I couldnt be more pleased. We toasted with a bottle of wine and inhaled the delicious pizza. To no surprise italian pizza is like really good.

We made our way home and promptly fell asleep.

Time seemed to slow in Livorno.  Our place was spacious and homey. The bed was very comfortable with two windows facing the city and waterway. The living room featured a white couch, red carpet and a dangerous ledge into the bathroom (common toe stubber)  The kitchen featured every tool needed for a Keith Elliott breakfast. Each room featured green shuttered windows that opened up to an incredible view.

On our second day I woke to sunshine bathing the apartment, birds chirping and the quiet hum of mopeds taking of to work. As i tiptoed out of the room i am greeted by keith doing his salutation to the sun. we are soaked in warm summer and life is good. He slips into the shower ( which has a vase of various hand made soaps to choose from) and i head to the bread store. Hear we converse back and forth and i end up with a loaf of bread to hot to hold with bare hands, biscottis (dates and walnut) and focaccia bread. Another quick trip to the store lands me fresh strawberries, eggs, spinach and garlic. We make breakfast and enjoy the sounds on daily life in livorno. Outside a man washes his boat, rubbing the bow with deep admiration. A child skips with his mother holding his hand keeping him from kicking the rocks in the street.

We begin our exploration walk and make it all the way down to the gazebo i had to see. People stroll by with their puppies, couples roller blade by hand in hand. A family follows behind their strawberry blonde little girl as she tries her hardest to balance a bright green bike.

We make it to a hotel i had been interested in. They have a rooftop bar and we have tea and cookies while looking out at the ocean. Next to us is an infinity pool made out of glass. the cloudy sky and promise of rain hardly keeps me from the urge to dive in.

with sprinkling over head we begin our walk back home.

During our time here we had our only rainy cloudy day. Because of this we were able to take a long glorious nap.

The next day we awake to the same birds song, yoga on the scarlet carpet, sunshine, fresh strawberries and a new fresh loaf of bread.
We are off to lake garda
